ASMEASME Needs You News BlogYOUR ASME NEEDS YOU! Would you like to make a significant contribution to ASME and medical education research whilst enhancing your skills and experience at the same time?  This is an opportunity for our members to apply for a role as a Director with ASME.  These roles provide our members with invaluable experience in influencing and promoting MedEd, great networking opportunities, develop new skills and enhance your career.

ASME’s Board of Directors would like to invite applications from the membership to apply to join the Board.  This enables interested members to make an active contribution to ASME and medical education, gain experience and insight into how a Board operates, influence policy and/or ideas and to provide fresh and possibly alternative viewpoints/ideas to the Board.

Our Articles of Association require that the Board is renewed/refreshed on a regular basis and as such, we are now looking for three new Directors to join the Board and assume an Office Bearer role. Please click on the links below to view each role description.

These would be for an initial 3-year term with the potential for a second 3-year term, if wished/agreed.

Appointment of Directors by the Board process

If you would like to apply to join the Board as a Director, you should submit your CV and up to a 600-word statement outlining your background and experience and what you could bring to ASME generally and also specifically.

Confirmation from your Line Manager and/or Institution of their support/agreement for this role should also be attached to your statement, along with confirmation that you have not been disbarred from acting in a Director or Trustee role in accordance with the UK Companies Act.

All Directors are required to be active and current individual members of ASME.

Please note that should you have a role on a committee for one of our Career Groups, Committees or SIGs, and are subsequently appointed to the Board, you will be required to resign from such position.

If you would like to apply, please forward your statement, CV and your Line Manager’s agreement to Sarah Innes, HR Manager at:  sarah@asme.org.uk by 5pm on Monday 15th April 2024.

ASME particularly welcomes applicants from diverse and under-represented backgrounds.

It is anticipated that interviews will be held in May/June either in person (if based near Edinburgh) or by Zoom/Teams.  The appointed Directors will start from the AGM in mid-July and will receive a full induction.

Please note that no remuneration is paid to Directors, but expenses for attending Board meetings etc are reimbursed in line with ASME’s expenses policy. Director’s
roles require approximately the equivalent of one day a month but this depends
on each role’s specific activity.  Directors are expected to be involved
in their ASME role on a weekly basis and as such requires the applicant’s line
manager’s approval for applying for the role
.

We look forward to hearing from you!
