A professional background of nursing, during her career she has held roles of Director of Quality and Service Improvement at a large Acute Trust followed by a number of key management roles as Assistant Regional Director/Director of Corporate Affairs at the NHS Executive Regional Office, Director of External; Corporate Affairs for the successor Strategic Health Authorities, Chief Executive roles and Chief Operating Officer/Director of Nursing, Workforce and Modernisation for a Strategic Health Authority. Latterly she was past Deputy Chair/Lay Member for Patient Involvement and Quality at a large Clinical Commissioning Group.
She holds Visiting Honorary Professorships at University of Worcester and London Southbank University and is a Fellow of the Safety Faculty. A past General Council Member of the King’s Fund. In 2009 she received an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to Health Care. She was a Commissioner on the Prime Minister’s Commission into the future of Nursing and Midwifery. She is Vice President College of Fellows University of Worcester. Outside the NHS she holds a number of Non-Executive Chair roles.
