We are a group of experienced and enthusiastic medical educators. As per our mission statement, our role is to support and promote the evidence informed professional development of the community of educators. We achieve this through promoting and disseminating good educational practice for the benefit of patient care, encouraging the scholarly development and career progression of educators and facilitating networking and collaboration across education communities.   What does membership involve? The ASME ENRICH Opportunities offers an exciting experience to attend the ASME medical education annual conference for free on Thursday 07th July 2022.  This national initiative is designed to actively support young people interested in developing their interests and insight into the field of medical and healthcare education.  This year we are delighted to be collaborating with REACH, which is hosted at the University of Aberdeen and is another innovative national programme with the overall aim of widening access to high demand professions including medicine. Letter from Incubator for Clinical Education Research

The NIHR Incubator for Clinical Education Research is leading work to collaboratively set national priorities for research into the education and training of health and social care professionals. Providing a timely evidence base in this area will improve healthcare delivery for ultimate patient benefit. We hope you will be able to contribute to this work. This exercise is in two parts: 1.      An on-line survey to identify stakeholders’ ideas for areas of unmet need in clinical education research. This will be a two-part ‘Delphi’-like exercise. The first part is available here, and should take around 15 minutes to complete. 2.      An in-person event, to be held at Friends House in central London on Wednesday 5th October to review survey findings and consider how priority areas can be funded, communicated and findings implemented in order to achieve sustainable benefits. Professor Waljit Dhillo (Dean of NIHR Academy) and Professor Dame Jane Dacre (Chair of the UKMED Advisory Board) will speak at this event. ASME looks forward to welcoming a new JASME member, who has taken up the offer of free membership for medical and healthcare students of Ukraine, to the upcoming Annual Scholarship Meeting in July. By funding their place to the conference, we hope that they can enjoy being a part of and networking with the ASME community, benefiting from other people’s scholarship and research as well as sharing their own ideas and experiences. As a small charity we wanted to do something tangible and we are delighted that JASME have been proactive in supporting ASME’s pledge, by offering funding to a UK-based Ukrainian medical student enabling them to attend the ASM in Aberdeen. The JASME Chair, Ed Whittaker, and the JASME Committee are excited to show them all the conference has to offer.

Joint ASME / GMC Excellent Medical Education Awards -  New Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity Category added from 2022   The Joint ASME/GMC Excellent Medical Education awards are a set of national prizes established jointly by ASME and the GMC in 2015. They are intended to fund high-quality medical education research, development, and innovation. The awards initially invited applications on a wide range of issues across the continuum of medical education with three core categories – undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing professional development. ASME and the GMC strongly support the need for further research in the field of Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI) and together have decided to introduce a new submission category within the now well-established joint ASME/GMC Excellent Medical Education Awards.
