Winner of Medical Education Developing Scholarship Award 2021 Announced

ASME and Wiley have offered the Medical Education Travelling Fellowship for a number of years. This has been a successful award offering many recipients career developing medical education opportunities across the world. However, in these strange and different times we have taken the opportunity to review the award.  Therefore, ASME and Wiley are pleased to announce the launch of the Medical Education Developing Scholarship Award for 2021 which will provide funding of up to £2,000 to support an individual or a research group.

The aim of the Medical Education Developing Scholarship Award is to enable an individual or a research group to strengthen their contributions to health professional education research. The individual or team must demonstrate how the activities supported by the award will offer long-term enhancement of their capacity to engage in high quality conceptually grounded, methodologically rigorous, and programmatic research efforts such as those prioritized for publication in Medical Education. Applications must show commitment to a specific project and demonstrate how the award will further the applicant’s professional development and opportunities to receive mentorship.

Benefits Offered

In addition to the benefits received from engaging in the professional development activity itself, successful applicants will receive:

  • Personalized research development clinics from the editors of Medical Education
  • Registration to and an opportunity to present at the Association for the Study of Medical Education’s Annual Scholarship Meeting in 2022
  • Feedback from the editors on any article emanating from the awarded activity
  • £2,000 to support completion of the professional development plan

We are delighted to announce the recipient of the 2020 Medical Education Developing Scholarship Award is Amy (Wai Yee) Wong, of Queens University Belfast, with their submission Professionalising feedback to assessors through an interdisciplinary community of practice.

WONG AmyWY winner picI am truly honoured to have been awarded the Medical Education Developing Scholarship Award 2021. It is an incredible opportunity for me, as an early career researcher, to strengthen my contributions to health professional education research through working closely with ASME, the Medical Education editorial team and Wiley. The award will be used to establish an interdisciplinary Community of Practice and to co-design the standards of dialogic feedback to advance assessors’ understanding of their assessment practices both in the university and practice settings. The knowledge developed through this research will be transferred beyond the local setting through working in partnership with ASME to collaboratively disseminate the evidence-based practices across its network. Thank you to everyone for supporting me along the way.

We look forward to hearing about Amy’s work in the future. Amy will be invited to present at the ASME Annual Scholarship Meeting in 2022 (date and venue tbc)
