New student and Widening Participation membership initiative

In fitting with “enabling” and “scholarship”, two of our five core values, ASME wishes to support and nurture scholarship in Medical Education and enable students from a wide variety of backgrounds to join the medical education community.

We are delighted to announce that with immediate effect JASME membership will be reduced to £15 per annum for students studying at Universities who are institutional members of ASME*, a reduction from the current standard JASME/Undergraduate membership fee of £34. In addition to this, recognising that this amount can be challenging for some students whom we wish to support, we will also provide free membership to students from a Widening Participation background whilst they are in full time study. *

*T&Cs Apply

  • Students must be studying full time at a member institution. Check if yours is a member HERE
  • Reduced rates will cease on graduation
  • Students wishing to apply for free membership must provide a letter from their institution confirming their WP status or that they are in significant financial hardship to qualify
  • Membership is for online only access to our journals Medical Education and The Clinical Teacher

All JASME/Undergraduate members of ASME will be contacted via email about this. All University Medical Schools will also be informed of this new benefit to their membership. If you are due a refund, we’ll be in touch in the next 10 days with further details.

Statement from our Chair regarding Covid-19
and ASME events

Desperate times call for desperate measures and so it was with great sadness that the Board of Directors made the decision to postpone our ASM planned for July 2020 in Liverpool and several other events/meetings. Our next ASM will now take place in 2021, details of date and venue will follow.

We envisaged that large gatherings of people would be unsafe and of course wanted to do our bit to reduce the transmission of Covid-19. Many of our membership will be increasing their clinical duties and for those involved in transferring curricula online life has been very hectic. We want to support our members, healthcare professionals and educators who are providing front-line NHS services and training students to do so.

A big thank you to all our ASME members who are involved on the frontline as key workers during the Covid-19 pandemic - we appreciate all you do and hope that you stay safe.
