Introducing ASMEBITESIZE

ASME Bitesize Logo

ASME would like to introduce you to a new initiative  which we have created. We hope this will provide you with the opportunity to engage with fellow ASME members and the wider medical education community.

We are delighted to announce the launch of ASMEBITESIZE

ASMEBITESIZE is an opportunity for you to discuss matters of interest and to disseminate areas of good practice and to support each other in these challenging times. We will be running a series of online "bitesize" events including podcasts, webinars, Q&As, journal editor sessions and so on. The series of short, concise, frequent and regular activities are being held from June to January. A whole world of opportunities for you to participate in and benefit from.

The first ASMEBITESIZE event will be on Monday 1st June.  It will take the form of an audio podcast exploring some of the key challenges and opportunities of teaching medical students about video and audio consulting in the current Covid crisis and beyond.  The short podcast will be available from the 1st of June in which ASME Chair Professor Sandra Nicholson will be interviewing Dr Graham Easton, GP and Professor of Communication Skills at Queen Mary University of London.

Until a few months ago, video consulting seemed like the future of doctor-patient interactions. Now it’s very much the present, and it’s here to stay. Doctors and health professionals of the future need to learn about video consulting, something potentially well-suited to our current online existence. But what do they need to know? How can we help them learn the skills? What are the tips and pitfalls for medical educators?

On Friday 5th June at 4pm the podcast will be followed up with a virtual discussion via webinar where ASME members can share ideas and best practice. If you would like to take part, register below for the webinar and log any questions by emailing: [email protected]

Statement from our Chair regarding Covid-19
and ASME events

Desperate times call for desperate measures and so it was with great sadness that the Board of Directors made the decision to postpone our ASM planned for July 2020 in Liverpool and several other events/meetings. Our next ASM will now take place in 2021, details of date and venue will follow.

We envisaged that large gatherings of people would be unsafe and of course wanted to do our bit to reduce the transmission of Covid-19. Many of our membership will be increasing their clinical duties and for those involved in transferring curricula online life has been very hectic. We want to support our members, healthcare professionals and educators who are providing front-line NHS services and training students to do so.

A big thank you to all our ASME members who are involved on the frontline as key workers during the Covid-19 pandemic - we appreciate all you do and hope that you stay safe.
