Opportunity for Honorary Secretary

The Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) is a membership association and charity established 60 years ago by the GMC to promote and undertake research into medical education.

We have recently incorporated and as part of our new organisational structure, we now have an opportunity for an Honorary Secretary. This is an excellent opportunity to play a senior role in a respected organisation, applying your administrative skills and experience to make a real difference, and being part of a friendly and dedicated group.

The Honorary Secretary supports the President, Chair and Operations Manager by ensuring the smooth functioning of the Board of Directors and the organisation and that the conduct of the organisation complies with all relevant requirements of charity and company law and maintains high standards of corporate governance.

The Honorary Secretary will act as an information and reference point for the Chair and other Directors: clarifying past practice and decisions; confirming legal requirements and retrieving relevant documentation.

This is a voluntary role and we anticipate it would require a few hours per month along with attendance at Board meetings (usually in Edinburgh and London) for which all expenses are paid.

  • Great organisational skills
  • Experience of committee work and procedures
  • Supervision of minute taking
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Approachable and sensitive to the feelings of others
  • Well organised and an eye for detail
  • Ability to work well with the Chair
  • Accurate work
  • A background in medical/health care or education would be an advantage
  • Applications should be sent to:  sarah@asme.org.uk with a CV and Covering Letter.
