  The recent escalation of the digital tools and skills in teaching and learning reinforces the need for robust scholarship in this aspect of medical education. The ASME Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) SIG held a one-day online network event on Monday 28th March to provide the opportunity for ASME members to explore some of the many aspects of digital teaching and learning, and identify key areas that need further scholarship to benefit medical education. ASME/GMC Excellent Medical Education Awards 2021 – Winners Announced

ASME is delighted to announce the ASME/GMC Excellent Medical Education Award winners for 2021. The “Excellent Medical Education” Programme is a set of national prizes established jointly by ASME and the GMC for the first time in 2015 and they are intended to fund high-quality medical education research, development and innovation.  ASME and the GMC welcome applications on a wide range of issues across the continuum of medical education. Three awards are available across the two categories of undergraduate and postgraduate/ continuing professional development. The programme is intended to support research which is related to the innovation, development, implementation and sustainability of excellent medical education which has an impact at either the individual (medical students, doctors in training, SAS doctors and consultants, and/or patients) or systems level (e.g. informing or leading to organisational change).     Applications up to the value of £5,000 and up to 12 months in duration will be...

  ASME launches career development support on International Women’s Day in support of women’s career enhancement in medical education To mark International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2022, ASME (Association for the Study of Medical Education) is launching a month-long series of tips, advice and resources written by women in medicine to help support other female healthcare professionals career progression. Collated by Dr Riya George, ASME’s Lead for Diversity and Inclusion and the ASME team, a range of useful tips and resources will be published, written by women across the medical spectrum. Examples of tips include how to create a positive and progressive workplace, thus building confidence along the way. ASME announces winner of coveted 2022 Gold Medal

Professor John McLachlan of University of Central Lancashire scoops top prize ASME (Association for the Study of Medical Education) is pleased to announce the winner of its 2022 Gold Medal is Professor John McLachlan of UClan - University of Central Lancashire, School of Medicine. This annual prize is awarded to highly experienced scholars in recognition of their outstanding lifetime contributions to medical education, research and innovation.  Professor McLachlan previously served as Editor-in-Chief of Medical Education, the world-leading journal of ASME. His research work has ranged widely, from quantitative psychometric studies on the factors which predict who will make a good doctor, to qualitative work on the use of arts and humanities in medical education. In particular, his work on how anatomy should be taught in medical schools has proved influential world-wide in bringing about a shift of focus from the preserved cadaver to the living patient.
