JASME Intercalation Prize 2021 Winner & Runner-up Announced

The ASME Intercalation Prize is a fairly new prize, introduced in the academic year 2018/19. The prize follows the same submission criteria and format as the Sir John Ellis Prize, however, is specifically for projects completed during an intercalated degree. Projects may include: Original researchDetailed literature reviewsEducational interventions Submissions should be a description of a piece of work, survey, research or innovation in which the student has been directly involved, in the field of medical education. Candidates should aim to include the following: AimsMethodsOutcomesDiscussion of medical educational literatureReflection on personal development The expectation is of a well-structured, purposeful and disciplined piece of work that will be of general interest to a medical education audience. ASME announces recipients of inaugural The Clinical Teacher ‘New Voices in Health Professions Education Award 2021’ New career development award provides clinical teachers and researchers with essential skills to be a peer reviewer. Launched this year, the aim of this new and innovative career development programme sponsored by ASME and Wiley is to provide early-career clinical teachers and researchers with the essential skills required to be a peer reviewer. Key features of the programme will include opportunities to engage in contemporary scholarly debates, improve skills in critical analysis and communication and refine academic writing through exposure to good practice. During the summer, recipients were invited to apply for this prize from diverse health professional backgrounds, under-represented groups and geographic regions where career development support for health professionals as clinical teachers and researchers is evolving. The President's Medal 2021


The President's Medal I am delighted to announce that this years' recipient of the ASME President's Medal is Emeritus Professor John Cookson.  John has had a long and distinguished career in medical education and has made a substantial contribution both at a national and international level.  He continues to be at the forefront of education in his role as Development Dean for the three counties medical school, University of  Worcester. This appointment capitalised on his vast experience, principally in undergraduate education across three other medical schools. He is a long-serving member of ASME and has, for many years, been the backbone and driver of the psychometrics special interest group bringing his knowledge and enthusiasm, and contributing to the strategic direction of the ASME board. The Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME), which includes in its goals, the promotion of high quality research into medical education, annually invites Members (including undergraduate student members and employees of institutions that are members of the Association) to submit bids for small grants to support a research study in the field of medical or other healthcare education. ASME welcomes submissions from new as well as established researchers. ASME particularly welcomes applicants from diverse and under-represented backgrounds. Some educational research projects require modest amounts of funding to cover expenses such as focus group attendance, travel, and simulated patient fees. These grants are intended to assist such projects. All recipients of the Small Grants award are contractually obligated to produce an end of project report to the ASME Board and to make, via open licence, any teaching / learning resource produced, available via ASME’s website to its membership.  The maximum award per individual...
