We are delighted to announce Professor Derek Gallen as ASME's new President. Derek took over as President at the ASM in June 2017, when Dr John Jenkins stepped down at the end of his term. We wish John the very best and thank him for his huge contributions to ASME.
Professor Derek Gallen has been the Postgraduate Dean for the Wales Deanery since October 2006. His main role is to facilitate the research interests of the deanery team around educational standards and introduce medical education to the generic curriculum of all trainees. As National Director of the UK Foundation Programme, he currently oversees the programme for the UK and was instrumental in securing initial funding. Derek also sits on the Education and Training Advisory Board at the GMC, and was on the Sponsoring Board for the Shape of Training. Derek was also on the Review of Trainers Standards for GMC and the Review of CEGPR (Certificate of Eligibility for GP Registration) and CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) routes to the specialist register. Currently he is on the sub group looking at the introduction of a Medical licensing assessment for the GMC.
