Want an opportunity to gain Board experience with ASME and support us in ensuring we are an inclusive and diverse organisation?

We have a unique opportunity for someone to join our Board on a temporary basis for maternity cover as Honorary Secretary and Lead for our Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI) project.  This is an excellent opportunity to play a senior role in a respected organisation and gain experience of being on a Board of Directors.

The Honorary Secretary supports the Chair, President, and Operations Manager by ensuring the smooth functioning of the Board of Directors through the preparation and organisation of the Board meetings agendas and papers.  These meetings include board, strategy and collaborative meetings to which are Special Interest Group Chairs are invited.  The Honorary Secretary acts as an information and reference point but is also key to the organisation and preparation of materials for these important meetings.  Support is also provided by the ASME office.

ASME is dedicated to embedding the principles of diversity and inclusivity throughout the organisation and fostering a culture that attracts and retains diverse talent and perspectives and maximises access and participation, both nationally and internationally.  Part of this role will entail being a Lead for EDI and providing strategic oversight and management of various different EDI initiatives.

Please see a link to our ASME EDI 2020 – 2022 strategy for further information.

This is a voluntary role and we anticipate it would require 10 -20 hours per month along with attendance at our virtual Board meetings, as well as strategy and collaborative meetings which occur every 2-3 months.

We welcome applications from all ASME members.  ASME’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our recruitment processes.  Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability.  ASME particularly welcomes applicants from diverse and under-represented backgrounds.
