A career in medical education: the ultimate balancing act?
The TASME Spring Conference is an annual one-day medical education conference aimed at trainee doctors interested in medical education. This year’s theme is “A Career in Medical Education: The Ultimate Balancing Act?”
The day will feature prominent keynote speakers and interactive workshops focusing on establishing and maintaining a career in medical education alongside busy clinical commitments. The conference is targeted at trainees with all levels of experience in medical education, aiming to help develop your career and interests.
Importantly, there will also be ample opportunity to share your medical education work on a national level by submitting abstracts for both oral and poster presentations, and the conference will also provide networking opportunities, enabling you to meet likeminded individuals and share ideas with those in similar positions.
NEW FOR THIS YEAR, we are offering opportunity to submit a workshop proposal to run a 40-minute workshop at the conference, in addition to abstract submissions for poster and oral presentations.

This year the TASME Spring Conference will be held at Newcastle University Medical School, Saturday 13th April 2019.
The conference will take place in the Cookson Building, Newcastle Medical School. This is a short walk from the city centre, behind the Royal Victoria Infirmary. Directions are as follows:
By TRAIN:
Newcastle Central is the closest train station. The medical school is a 20 – 30 minute walk from the train station. Alternatively, delegates can take the Metro subway system from Central Station to Haymarket. The medical school is a 10-15 minute walk from Haymarket metro through the university campus.
Uber also provides a quick and easy way of getting to the medical school: Ubers generally cost round £4-5.

Poster Specifications:
Posters should be a maximum size of 2m in height by 1m wide (or size A0: 84.1cm x 118.9cm) portrait and should be attached to the poster boards provided using Velcro (Velcro will also be supplied). Posters should be displayed for the duration of the conference. It is the delegate’s responsibility to put the poster up and to take it down after the conference.
Authors are expected to stand by their poster, present for a few minutes, and answer any questions. We understand that if you have more than one poster in different themes that this may be difficult. In this situation we ask that you choose which paper is the primary one that you wish to present, and/or if you have a co-author who is attending, consider their availability to perhaps present another one.
The person(s) presenting must register and pay to attend the conference.
Oral presentations: Oral presenters should plan on a 10 minutes presentation with up to 5 minutes for questions afterwards
Abstract Deadline: Now passed
Abstracts should not be more than 300 words excluding titles and authors and should include the following headings:

-CONCLUSIONS
Authors whose abstracts are accepted for POSTER presentation will be informed by 23rd February 2019. Those accepted for ORAL presentation will be informed by 8th March 2019.

We are currently accepting proposals from those interested in running a 40-minute workshop at the conference. This could be on any aspect of medical education, including undergraduate training, postgraduate training, simulation, or feedback and assessment (and this is not an exhaustive list!) We welcome innovative, engaging and creative ideas for workshops, and welcome proposals from small groups.
Workshop Proposal Deadline: 5pm on 7th December 2018
NOTE if you are successful in obtaining a workshop slot, you are still expected to register for the conference.

REGISTRATION:
Registration opens at 8.30am in the foyer of the medical school building.
If you have a poster, you will be directed to your poster board. Velcro will be provided for sticking posters to the boards. Poster guidance is available on our website.
At registration, delegates will be able to sign up to workshops.
We will have space to store any suitcases or bags for anybody travelling.

WORKSHOPS:
We are operating three workshop streams; Starting out in Medical Education, Advancing as an Educator and Clinical Teaching Fellows. These streams act as a guide to content and are not exclusive to any particular group of delegates.
This year we did an open call for workshops. Successful workshops will be entered into a competition for ‘Best Workshop’; votes will be taken on the event feedback form and the winner announced after the conference.

An online feedback form will be distributed after the event. This must be filled in for you to receive your certificate of attendance
ABSTRACT BOOK
This will be published online after the conference and will feature all accepted conference abstracts that were presented on the day.
IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT…
It’s a massive shame if anybody can’t make it. We did sell out of tickets this year and do have a waiting list of people keen to attend. Therefore, if you are unable to attend, please do get in touch ASAP so we can offer the opportunity to another delegate. We regret that we are unable to offer any refunds.
