Faculty Empowerment for Academic Training (FEAT)

It’s an inter-professional faculty development program that trains all academicians with the common agenda of making students learn. Learning ‘how to learn’ is not taught to the students of the higher education system. The teachers focus only on the syllabus content and not on the learning skill.

To overcome this lacuna, the FEAT program is designed and executed systematically, which helps to teach the students the learning skills and also to track their performance from entry to exit with proper support on an individual basis.

This session will sensitize the faculty for identification and support of Students Needing Additional Curricular Support (SNACS) and Students Provided Enriched Curricular Support (SPECS). The systematic conduct of the program and documentation helps the institutes in improving the graduate outcomes and the accreditation requirements.

Dr. Shivasakthy Manivasakan

Prof. M. Shivasakthy, Director, Institute of Health Professions Education, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Puducherry, India. 

Prof. M. Shivasakthy, a Prosthodontist, qualified in the field of education with a Postgraduate Diploma and a Ph.D. in Health Professions Education. She was endowed “Shri Gurucharan Das Endowment Medal” for Best Ph.D. Scholar. Her contribution towards the identification and support of Students Needing Additional Curricular Support is awarded and recognized internationally in the field of education. She is a Member of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (MFDS RCPSG), Glasgow, member of the Association of Medical Education in Europe (AMEE), American Dental Education Association (ADEA), and a member of National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Govt. of India. She is the recipient of the “Best teacher award 2020” in recognition of her valuable contribution to the academic community and the students. She is a key contributor towards the conversion of all non-regulatory programs of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth to adapt to the Choice Based Credit System.

She has four granted patents, five published patents, and thirty-one copyrights granted to her credit. She has over 50 publications and has contributed to five training manuals on palliative care for Medical officers, Staff Nurse, ASHA, Community health worker, and Multipurpose workers at Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness centres for NHSRC, Ministry of Health, Govt. of India and contributed for two Competency Based Training manual for “in-service pharmacists” and “lab technologists” of primary health care to Govt. of Odisha along with Health systems Transformation Platform. She is board of studies member for several programs and member of academic council at Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth. She is also guiding masters, MHPE, and Ph.D. candidates. She has been a resource person for over 100 invited lectures and workshops at the International and National levels for medical, dental, and allied health academicians. Her key areas of expertise & consultancy include Health Professions Education, Choice Based Credit System, National Education Policy, Intellectual Property Rights, Prosthodontics, and Palliative Care.

Sarah Edwards, Honorary Secretary, ASME

Dr Sarah Edwards is an Emergency Medicine registrar working in the East Midlands. As well as being ASME’s Honorary Secretary she works in a number of other roles. She currently works as a tutor/lecturer for the Medical Education Masters at Sunderland University and is the Social Media Editor for the Emergency Medical Journal. She also is the Clinical Cases Editor for the Royal College of Emergency Medicine’s (RCEM) Learning platform.

Her research interests include technology enhanced learning, social media education and game-based education. With a specific interest in qualitative research methodology.
