Welcome To ASME

{2jtab:General Info}

The Junior Association for the Study of Medical Education (JASME) is a special interest group within ASME for medical students. One of its key goals is to encourage, promote and conduct medical education research initiated by students.

JASME invites undergraduate medical students to submit a description of their planned research study or evaluation of an innovation in teaching in the field of medical and healthcare education.

Some educational research projects or teaching innovations often require modest amounts of funding to cover expenses. These may include focus group attendance, travel, simulated patient fees and these grants are intended to assist these projects. The grants are not intended to supplement the natural support that institutions should give to individuals and therefore cannot be used to fund PhD studies, computing equipment, overheads, research assistants/associates and similar. The grants can be used for transcription costs but these must not exceed £16.00 per hour. Small Grant funding must not be used for conference attendance (including ASME’s ASM).

Applications for either award should be made via the online submission form available in the Awards section of the JASME website. The submission should be attached to the online application and be on one side of A4 (minimum font size 12pt) outlining:

  • Background and need for the project
  • Description of project including research question, justification for methodology and projected outcomes
  • Timetable
  • Justification of funding required

The maximum award per individual or project under the scheme will be £600, with up to one award per year.

Successful applicants will be expected to submit a report of their work to JASME and will be encouraged and supported to submit abstracts to the ASME Annual Scientific Meeting.

All applicants must be a student member of ASME at the time of submission. Non-members can join JASME online for a small fee and experience the host of other student member benefits of ASME.

Submissions via the online submission form should be received by Friday 4th May 2012. JASME may ask for a more detailed proposal from those shortlisted.
