The Junior Association for the Study of Medical Education (JASME) is a special interest group within ASME for medical students. One of its key goals is to encourage, promote and conduct medical education research initiated by students.
JASME invites current undergraduate medical students to submit a description of their planned elective project. The project must have education as a central focus, such as a teaching component (e.g. educating patients or members of the local community about a healthcare issue of particular relevance to them; participating in teaching of students at your host institution), or an education research component (e.g. comparison of how something is taught in your host institution compared to your resident medical school). It is recognised that most electives are mainly clinical, so the education focus will need to be designed to fit with this. An elective is an excellent opportunity to carry out work in medical teaching and/or education, and JASME are happy to consider any project with a medical education theme.
This grant is purely to be used for the purpose of a structured medical elective and for no other purpose. Using it over a vacation period that is not part of your medical elective is not allowed.
Applications for either award should be made via the online submission form available in the Awards section of the JASME website. The submission should be attached to the online application and be on one side of A4 (minimum font size 12pt) outlining:
JASME may ask for more detail from those shortlisted, if necessary. The maximum award per individual or project under the scheme will be £500, up to a maximum of one per year.
Successful applicants will be expected to submit a report of their work to JASME, which may be published on the ASME website in part or in full. They will also be encouraged and supported to submit abstracts to the ASME Annual Scientific Meeting.
