Pre course work

Pre Course Work

The process and format of the course is critically important to its success and is highly interactive.  With this in mind delegates will be asked to submit the following pieces of work:

 Self-Portrait

  • Delegates will be asked to submit a short self-portrait of about 200-300 words accompanied by a digital photograph that we can include in the course booklet.  What you put in is entirely up to yourself and you can be as imaginative and creative as you wish.

Needs assessment form

  • Delegates will be asked to fill in and submit a needs assessment form. This form will be reviewed by the faculty members in advance of the course.  We will try and address any specific needs you have during the course.

Leadership Challenge/Leadership Project

  • An important aspect of the course is offering delegates the opportunity to think through a significant personal leadership challenge that you are facing at the present time or a significant project that you are leading on.  The technique we apply is called the “step back technique” which some of you may be familiar with which  involves groups of 4 or 5. One person starts with a short presentation to the group of no more than 10 minutes about the leadership challenge/project that they wish to be discussed. This is followed by a series of factual questions to the presenter and then the group discuss the issue with the presenter ‘stepping out’ of the group, listening to the discussion but making no contribution. Following the group’s discussion, the presenter then re-enters the group and synthesises his or her insights as a result of listening to the discussion.
  • The step-back technique offers the opportunity to have an issue aired and critically and constructively reviewed by colleagues who are unconnected and distant from your working environment. It will be reviewed by one of the faculty members in advance of the course and you may be contacted for further clarification prior to the course (please note your submissions will be treated with absolute confidentiality).

Delegates will be asked to complete an Aston Team Performance Inventory - information will be sent after course registration

Delegates will be asked to complete A Myers Briggs Type Indicator - information will be sent after course registration

All of the above must be completed in advance of the course so that delegates can participate fully during the appropriate sessions. Deadlines for pre course submission dates are in May/June .
