ASME invites submissions for pre and intra conference workshops at the 2009 ASM. Please submit your proposal via the form. The deadline for submissions is Friday 9th January 2009.

Workshops should be designed to promote and disseminate effective learning and teaching activities in medical and healthcare education through a practice activity and/or interactive based format.

The primary purpose is to:

• Support dissemination of good practice to a wider audience
• Promote collaboration to enhance new and existing projects and partnerships
• Raise awareness of new initiatives, recommendations and Government policy
• Promote evaluation and high quality educational research studies including systematic review
• Promote staff development through development and delivery of appropriate workshop/seminar programmes
• Facilitate participants in interaction, practice and dissection of key topics

There is no limit on the number of submissions that a single individual may make. Joint submissions from more than one individual or institution are also encouraged.

Potential proposers are encouraged to contact the ASME office to discuss the planned workshop in order to ensure that its suitability is maximised.

Introduction

The ASME workshop scheme is designed to promote and disseminate effective learning and teaching activities in medical/healthcare education.

Application process

Eligibility: Submissions will be accepted from individual and corporate members of ASME.

Only fully completed submissions which reach us by the deadline, or a negotiated extension, will be considered.

Deadline: Friday 9th January 2009

Please submit completed forms via the website or by post to ASME, 12 Queen Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1JE, UK.

Criteria for evaluating submissions

The general criteria to be applied in evaluating projects include:

• Completeness - do we need further details of the submission?
• The nature of the workshop - are the objectives clear?
• Appropriateness - is the workshop relevant to medical/healthcare education constituencies?  What collaboration is proposed?  What is the likely extent of take-up?  What impact would take-up have on the quality or efficiency of learning, teaching or assessment?
• Clarity and appropriateness of educational method(s) - are these clear?
• Workshop format - does it include significant opportunity for practice and interactivity?

Review process

Once we receive your pre-conference workshop submission, we will proceed through the following stages:

• Submissions will be checked by staff for completeness and appropriateness for the criteria. Proposers will be given feedback about incomplete submissions, and the chance to confirm details if there is time to do so before the deadline for application.
• All submissions will be assessed by an assessment panel.
• Authors of rejected submissions will be given feedback on why the workshop was not supported.
